Cover-up tattooing begins with what is already on the skin. The size, darkness, color, line density, age, location, and condition of the existing tattoo determine what a new design can realistically accomplish. That makes every cover-up different.
At Rego Park Tattoo, we would rather set realistic expectations at the beginning than promise that any design can hide any tattoo. Send us clear photographs of the existing piece along with the kind of imagery you would like to wear instead. We can discuss whether a cover-up is practical and what changes in size, composition, or subject may give the new tattoo a stronger result.

A cover-up usually needs to work with the darkest and most noticeable parts of the old tattoo. The new composition may need to be larger, use strategically placed texture or darker values, or shift the focal point away from the original shape. Designs with natural variation often provide more flexibility than rigid, sparse images. The best option depends entirely on what is underneath.
A small old tattoo can sometimes provide useful flexibility, but darkness and density matter as much as physical size. We review the piece before recommending a direction.
Fading can create more options because less visual information needs to be overcome. We still design around the strongest remaining lines and dark areas.
Larger existing tattoos require broader compositions and careful planning. The new piece may extend well beyond the original tattoo to create a convincing visual reset.
Sometimes the strongest approach incorporates portions of an existing tattoo rather than hiding every element. We can discuss whether a rework or full cover-up better fits what you want.
| Service | Estimated Cost | Average |

| Small cover-up | Quoted after photo review | Varies by existing tattoo |
| Custom cover-up design | Estimate after consultation | Varies by complexity |
| Large cover-up project | Project-based estimate | Varies by sessions required |
Cover-ups cannot be priced accurately from the desired new design alone. We need to evaluate the existing tattoo, proposed size, placement, complexity, and likely session time.

We explain what the existing tattoo allows instead of promising that every idea can function as a cover-up.
The darkest areas and strongest shapes of the old tattoo influence the new composition from the beginning.
The goal is to create a piece you actually want to wear, with the cover-up strategy serving the new design.

Photograph the existing tattoo in even light so we can see its size, density, color, and surrounding available skin.
Tell us what imagery and styles you like. We identify which directions are realistic for the tattoo underneath.
We build the new design around the areas that require the most coverage and explain why certain elements need to sit where they do.
The cover-up is tattooed according to the agreed plan, sometimes across multiple sessions for larger work.
